Day 60: Gore Bay - Tobermory

km today: 83.9
total km: 4611.8

Sunrise from our beautiful campsite (no one found us).

We enjoyed a brilliant breakfast at the marina before heading to the very impressive farmers market that took up the entire arena, where we indulged in homebaked goodness. From there it was a rush to the ferry when we learned that we only had 4 and a half hours to cover the 75km to the terminal located in South Baymouth. We did it in record time, covering 70 of the km in only 3 hours. Of course, this required what is now becoming a typical celebration of eating 1L of ice cream. We had time to savour it as well. When we arrived at 2pm to catch the 3 we were informed that they had moved to the summer schedule so that we had just missed the 1:30 and were in for an almost 4 hour wait for the ferry at 5:50pm.

The ferry, the Chi-Cheemaun, was a step up from the B.C. ferries as it was complete with a on board bar and wine glasses actually made of glass. We definitely paid for the upgrade though, paying almost double the inflated Nanaimo-Horseshoe Bay price that everyone likes to complain about these days.

After a relaxing 1 3/4 hours cruise we arrived in bustling, touristy Tobermory, just what we were hoping for. The atmosphere was really fun and reminded us of the streets of Kuta Beach on Bali. We indulged in a super healthy, best dinner for bikers, all you can eat fish and chips extravaganza from a dock side place where the servers wore pirate outfits. We felt great.
