Day 22: Fernie - Bellevue

km today: 81.1
total km: 1350

We thought that this was to be short day! We must be getting in shape, because 80 km, with a pass, would have killed us in the beginning. I mean, we died on our first ride to Comox (aka our entire training).

In the morning, we checked out the "historic downtown" of Fernie. We found it cute and nice, but we both decided that Fernie is a bit overhyped. It's a beautiful area, and a nice THREE blocks of downtown, but the rest needs some work. It is just too sleepy (some shops don't even open until 1:00 pm).

Onto Sparwood! Home of the worlds largest truck. We really liked it here. It was a nice spot to stop for lunch before tackling the unbelievably mellow and short Crowsnest Pass. Easiest ascent yet. Who would thought for the Rockies?

Basically, as soon as we had crossed the summit we were into Alberta. One province done! Unfortunately we were greeted with a head wind that followed us the rest of the way to Bellevue where we found a FREE campsite. The town was lacking though, and we were forced to purchase dinner from the Gas Station which included pasta with a can of pork and beans, veggie chillie, leftover cauliflower, squash and potatoe topped off with....... tuna (no name at that). Gourmet.
A really nice valley just before Bellevue.
