Day 24: Waterton National Park

km today: 0
total km: same as before

This was our much needed day off, and a perfect spot to have it. The mountains were absolutely magnificent jutting out of the water, and the abundance of wildlife reminded us of a prehistoric world.

When we awoke, we were greeted with the sound of birds chirping....or so we thought. When we actually stepped out of our tent, we found ourselves surrounded by upright prairie dogs in the midst of long distance conversations across the campground.

We began our lazy day off. We went on a 200m bike ride, skipped rocks across the stream, took lots of photos and had the intention of updating the blog. However, our options were either $1 or $2 per 5 min!!! Our decided solution was to have Mom and Dad send the laptop. $12 dollars an hour is just ridiculous. We also had the good intention of trying out one of the many famous Waterton hikes. These are reputed as some of the best hikes in Canada. Unfortunately, my cucumber-sized achilles tendon, dashed my hopes. Brandon forged on. Although he really wanted to do the "Crypt Lake" hike, he chose to hang out with me for the day and just take a couple of hours out of the evening and head up the short but rewarding "Bear's Hump" trail. At the top he made a new friend - a squirrel he christened Phil. Phil followed him all over the peak, never detouring to hang out with any of the other 10-15 hikers. Brandon felt pretty special.
