Day 81: Katie's BIrthday!

Today, Katherine Anne Field turned 23 years old. Thanks to thoughtful parents, this day was a break from the ordinary. We moved out of Matt’s place near the airport and into the “Downtown B&B” which, as it happens, actually is located downtown. We were immediately ushered into the spa room, where we both enjoyed deep tissue sports massages as well as complimentary facials, which included the plucking and waxing of eyebrows. Siri, our host, masseuse and esthetician was especially excited to tackle Brandon’s “virgin” eyebrows (as she called them).

We were planning on visiting some more museums, but the spa treatment took longer than expected. Instead we went straight to dinner. We found a lively, local pub where we enjoyed great British pub fare along with our celebratory pitcher of beer. We were pretty happy, even before finishing the pitcher of beer and the free chocolate eruption cheese-birthdaycake. Thank you parents!

Birthday cake and dinner was followed by the discovery of quality live music in the middle of the street. We pulled ourselves away to finish off the evening’s festivities with the viewing of the “Sound and Light Show” on Parliament Hill, which is being put on in celebration of Ottawa’s 150th anniversary as capital of Canada. Even though I was away from home, it was a wonderful birthday.Katie Field and Lester B. Pearson, Canadian heroes.

P.S. We had no idea how much we sucked at taking photos today. Sorry parents, we must have been enjoying ourselves too much.
