Day 83: Grenville - Montreal

km today: 104.9
total km: 5601.3

This church is almost exactly replicated in absolutely every town we have passed along the way.

We slept like the dead and got one of our earliest starts, hitting the road by 7:15. The sight of blue sky upon exiting the tent was welcome. With a slight tail wind and more good road conditions, Bravo Quebec.

we thought we’d be in Montreal by about 3:30pm. We were unfortunately mistaken. Navigating our way into the city center took hours. We didn’t get settled into our hotel room until around 6:00pm.

But it was all worth it. Montreal, in our eyes, has lived up to every bit of the hype. The architecture is old but the energy of the city is young. Every inch of the city seems to be alive. Even the bums are bilingual, efficiently translating their harassment into english, just when we thought we were safe. On our evening walk, not a block passed by that was not buzzing with unique establishments. We hear that there are more than 5000 restaurants in the city and in our 2 hour stroll we probably came across about 1000 of them.

Which of them to choose for our dinner? Well, when in Montreal do as Montrealers do and line up for the best smoked meat in the city (so we’ve been told). Schwartz’s has been operating since 1930 and they’re doing something right.

They even sell beer and wine in the convenience stores.

We think that we’re going to enjoy our winter here.
